The Summer Drought….

Looking for a decent new game to play?  Me too. I have exhausted myself in Red Dead Redemption, as am I very close to getting the 100% completion achievement.  But after that, what else is there to play?  Crackdown 2?  No.  I have heard too many bad things about that.  The summer drought is here.

However, there is always my game library.  The library that holds many past gems of gaming glory.  Here are my thoughts on games to replay…..what are yours?

Uncharted 2:  There are many treasures that I missed on my first play through.  That being said, while a fantastic game, it is rather low on the replay value list.

Bioshock: I never played through the game as a LITTLE SISTER KILLER.  Maybe I could do that…and maybe it would remove the bad taste from Bioshock 2.

Batman: Arkham Asylum: Despite the ultra-cheesy ending, this was still a fun game.

Mass Effect 2: Have not gone back to this game since beating it one time, plus there are tons of add ons for it now.

So those are the games I am thinking about returning to.  What are you going to play?  What do you think?

Red Dead Redemption This is a damn near perfect game.  The presentation and gameplay go a long way to establish video games as art.  The goal of most every game is to suck you into the world.  To make you live there.  This game delivers.

If you have played any Grand Theft Auto game since 3, then you have a good idea of how this game plays.  I was never a big fan of the GTA series.  I have played everyone, but the size of the worlds you lived in were always intimidating and eventually I would stop playing.  The missions in the GTA series started to blend together after awhile. RDR gets stuck in this rut as well, but they dont feel as forced.  Besides the rather beefy main story, there are TONS of side quests you can or cant do.

So what makes this a game worth buyin?  The HUGENESS of it.  For $60 you would be hard pressed to find as much quality.  The story is engaging.  Instead of playing as an outlaw, you play as a former outlaw who straightened out his life.  And like Clint Eastwood’s character in UNFORGIVEN, your past comes back to bite in you the ass.

Speaking of Clint Eastwood, if you are a fan of his cowboy films, you will find yourself right at home.  Especially his spaghetti westerns.  In fact, the look of the game is not unlike any scene from A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.

You can play as a good guy, or play as a total dick.  However, keeping on the good side of the law makes you more friends and is a lot less expensive.  Paying off bounties that are placed on you is a bitch.

The game takes you from Southern Texas to Mexico.  You find yourself involved in cattle rustling and the Mexican Civil war.  The characters you encounter are memorable and very alive. I cannot recommend this game enough.  Pick it up.

Well…..this has peaked my interest.  From 1UP.

Guitarist Brian May has reignited rumors that a Queen-specific band game could be on the way. Speaking with Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter (via Kotaku), the 62-year-old guitar legend (and astrophysicist) said Guitar Hero: Queen will hit stores sometime next year.

Oddly enough, May — having already appeared alongside his bandmates in Lego Rock Band — previously hinted at a Queen-focused Rock Band project as recently as last October. Not only that, but the band’s classic “Bohemian Rhapsody” has factored pretty heavily into the early marketing for Rock Band 3.

Why the sudden franchise change? It’s possible that the Swedish interviewer or even May himself mistook Rock Band for Guitar Hero or vice versa. Then again, maybe a last minute deal with Activision persuaded the band to go with Guitar Hero rather than Harmonix’s game. Or, perhaps there is no Queen game coming at all, and this is just a case of an old man having a laugh at our expense.

Whatever the case may be, we can only hope the Flash Gordon theme song is involved somehow.
